How much food do you have stored?

I have a mix of beans, rice, oatmeal, and pasta in 5 gal buckets, #10 cans of Mtn House freeze dry, #10 cans of dehydrated, MREs and a lot of canned goods.
With proper management, our stash will last me, my wife and 2 dogs about 14-15 months.

We have a garden, seeds, greenhouse, pressure canner, snares and conibears to supplement what we have.

approx one year on current preps, for a family of 3 (one toddler).

I expect my garden/gathering/other skills and adaptation would extend that a little, not to mention, I havn't quit prepping, so the "Big Pile O Preps" (BPOP tm lol) just keeps getting bigger.

Guess it also comes down to what "it" is when it hits and how bad it is, total cut off from everything vs. economic shut down that cripples but doesn't kill the country etc.

EDIT: based on poll: I do however have Dominoes on speed dial, and although I wouldn't eat my pets, I keep track of how many my neighbors have lol Wink

I have approx. 3 months for my immediate family, but since my BOL has a hell of alot of beef on hand, I am not worried about finding food, but keeping it!

We are working on getting chickens and having seeds on hand for planting things that go with beef. Smile

Don't go nuts...A month should be plenty for most SHTF situations. Anything longer will be an EOTWAWKI and no way to store enough for that in the city!!! Smile

i'm actually in a suburb, closer to the farms than to the buildings, but you are right anyway, a month or two should be enough, the point is:the more you can gather, the better it is.... i'm planning on 3 months max for 2 peoples and even if it is too much, well, i can share or trade... or invite people for dinner!!! i hope we can still have a "social life" when TSHTF

I know it might seem cold blooded, but you want to be very careful about letting people know what you have. It's OK to be friendly, just keep your inventory to yourself!!!!

i know about that, don't worry but here's the other side of the medal:

it's not hard to make a difference between someone starving and someone who ated today... if they see the same person healty day after day, they will probably guess the reason soon enough, wich is why sharing with a couple of person is wise, those same persons want to PROTECT the ressource

if TSHTF, being careless won't be an option, but teaming will... you can't just sit on your food supply to make sure no one grab it, or can you??

That is good advice. better to make freinds than enemy's with your neighbors. Then you can all work together to pool and protect resources .
But Keep a careful eye and always watch your back.
