Before school started, I was going to grit my teeth and get a camelbak, even though they're all in the triple digits for even the smallest daypacks. Then, I saw this on clearance for $25 shipped:

It's the gerber evader daypack/E&E. It has an internal 3 liter hydration bladder with bite valve and about 750ish cubic inches of storage space in addition to that. As you can see, it's in fashionable coyote brown (haven't you heard? It's the new tactical black). It came with 3 rows of webbing, but I don't have any stuff that attaches with webbing so I used it to hold my paracord. It has two side mesh pockets, one small front pouch, the main cargo pouch, and a separate pouch for the hydration bladder. Everything is made of 1000D cordura and the zippers are water resistant. Let's see what's in it!

This side pocket contains a small bottle of bleach, potable aqua tabs (that I hate), and bug dope. The other pocket contains my garmin e-trex GPS, but I didn't take a picture of it. I also took the lanyard of the GPS and tied it to the base of the shoulder strap so it would hold on if it fell out of the pocket.

The small front pouch contains:
rain poncho
3 firestarters
FM radio with ear buds
30 gallon "force flex" trash bag
50 gallon contractor bag
2 AAA batteries for radio
2 AA batteries for GPS
10 feet of duct tape wrapped around a business card

The main cargo compartment has this cool pocket system that lets me better organize tiny things.

The main compartment pockets contain:
mylar blanket
2 green glow-sticks
2 red glow-sticks
emergency "life straw" water filter
my BOAT, which is the same as before. If you haven't heard, it contains:
1 firestarter
1 mini-bic
2 claritin allergy medicine
2 imodium "tummy troubles" medicine
1 vegetable bullion cube
1 sewing needle with floss wrapped around it
1 honey packet
2 razor blades
1 small lockback knife

The remaining main cargo area contains 2 homemade "ghetto MREs." Each one has 2 luna bars, a big log of moose goo, and a gatorade powder packet.

The hydration bladder in its dedicated pouch. It sits right up against your back, and it's contoured to be comfortable.

This should give you an idea of the size. As you can see, it has a waist belt and a chest strap to keep it on when you're running around. You can also see the GPS in the side pocket.

Overall, I'm really excited to have my first proper backpack.

Remember, when on campus, just sling it over 1 shoulder! Wink
