I like the 870, but that is just me.
I do sell alot more 870's than any thing else.
Mossy 590 would be my next choice. |

IMHO shotguns are great overall.
Load em with anything from light game loads with the proper choke to tactical slugs out of a rifled barrel and you have a very versitile weapon platform.
not to mention when you see a lot of 12g holes in walls etc around the neighborhood, it'd tend to make you take a little more notice than .22 holes |

Just don't bring a shotgun to a rifle fight.
I think they are good for an untrained shooter. But, for a strong defense, you have to be able to hit a bad guy at ranges equal or greater to the ranges they can hit you.
Then again, since this is urban survival, they are great for apartments. Tactical (low recoil)00buck probably won't kill your neighbors.
I saw the movie 3:10 to Yuma last month. 3 days later I bought a Stoeger side by side 12 gauge. It is a very fun shotgun |
I have a Win Defender 8 shot. Love it. Anybody uot there have a sxs as their only scatter gun??? _________________ "If this ain't a mess, it'l do 'till one shows up" |

Remington 870 over here. 18.5" barrel and cop stock. Sweet.
Whatever shotgun you have, take some classes. I was surprised how much I sucked at shooting from the hip, Hollywood style. _________________

Why would you shoot from the hip? _________________ RJ |

Normally, I wouldn't shoot from the hip, but I could imagine it being necessary at some point. It was one of the drills I did when I took a shotgun course by my place.
My point is that there's always something you can pick up when you train with competent instructors. _________________

Okay. I'm not sure where such a situation would exist, but that's just me. _________________ RJ |

you need to ccw even around your house. The gun has to always be within easy reach, or it will probably be of no value to you. You probably will get little or no warning of an attack, so you will not be able to run and get any gun at all.
Also, if it is a typical, unchoked riot gun, it can't be relied upon to stop men with a buckshot blast beyond 25 yds, and at home type ranges, 10 ft and less from the muzzle, the pattern spread is just 3" wide, so you have to aim it just like you would a rifle. So the shotgun is nothing like as "versatile" as the ignorant think that it is. |

can easily be necessary if you are "jumped" as you turn a corner, etc. If you try holding the gun at your shoulder as you search for that "bump" in the dark, it is very awkward and very tiring. If you hold it in a more reasonable, down by your hips "ready" position, it is quite likely that you will have to fire it from that positiion, too. |
