I had to pick 5. My nearest firearm is in the realm of the theoretical. Sorry, I'm poor and everywhere I go has a zero-tolerance policy. Thanks to dorm life, I think my main self defense weapon will be the trusty 4d maglite.

As I sit here my primary firearm is locked in a safe within 8 ft of me, several sharp pointy objects ranging from knives to screwdrivers within arms reach then bats and canes a little further out so I would guess it's not a question of weather I have something close as to what do I reach for 1st?

Why do you not have a weapon readily accessable? Is there some law against it there?

It all depends on time. If you've had a threat against you or your family, obviously you have time to go get your firearm. If you hear scratching on the windows in the middle of the night, you have time to go unlock your safe and get your firearm. If you hear someone rustling around in your house, then it depends on how quickly and quietly you can open the safe.

In your own home, you should always have a firearm within arms reach! Did you read the link in my OP?

He lives in california. I don't know, but there's probably a law that it has to be locked up at all times.

I'm at work right now, so my answer would be "locked in my truck out in the parking garage". At home, the answer would be "in my pocket" for the .32, and generally within arms reach for the riotgun.
