while checking my mail today i noticed my electric meter was spinning quite fast but i didnt have very much running so i thought.i went through the house to inspect here what i found.
up stairs the ac i left on tv,vcr, dvd player in our room.the boys room tv and dvd player all plugged in but not on but still drawing power, its called dummy loads just using electric waiting for the signal from the remote to be turned on.
now down stairs computer, monitor, printer all on wireless router, cable modem, plasma screen tv,dvd, surround sound system, home stereo all individual components and all drawing dummy loads.
my sollution ?
i installed power strips and plugged everything into them except the cable box the wife records shows and movies while she is at work.after doing this i turned off all three power strips and checked the meter it was down to a crawl less than one rotation a minute compared to i dont know how many before but i would guess it was at least 7 to 10 rounds per minute.
i showed the wife and weve both agreed we need to make sure these are turned of when no one is here or were in bed and dont use no more than we need.plus it lessons the chance of electrical fire too.

you will on the dvd and vcr but i dont care as i have my cell, microwave, oven and alarm clock that stay on.im almost alway up before the alarm though.however im learning or getting old(both)that time isnt about what time it is but what you make of the time you have left saving money on one thing to do other things sounds good to me.
