Hi!
thank you for approving. I am SaucyRose and I hope I have prepared for the times ahead.
I come here looking for more information and to share what I have learned over the decades.
I have a small hobby farm raising goats, chickens, turkeys, rabbits and dogs.
I now only do spring lambs that are in my freezer come the fall. I don't have time for doves or pigeons or fish as I am so busy in other areas.
I do garden, can what I harvest or dehydrate.
I love to sew and cook.
anything more? just ask.

Welcome aboard! It's great to hear that someone with your awesome skill set is here. I'm a fellow cook that's trying to get into canning and shooting.
What kind of garden do you have? What zone do you live in? I'm stuck in an apartment for now, but getting a proper garden going is one of the first things on my list when I get a house with a yard. |

Hello Sweet Tea!
apartment living? no problem... I have friends that raise and butcher rabbits in their apartments! they grow vegetables in front of windows, use grow lights and rather enjoy the challenge.
I am zone 9 USDA or Zone 13 (and 2) in Sunset. I live in the High Desert.
gardening is only a challenge in the extreme heat. Some plants like tomatoes love it... while other plants like Rhubarb struggle.
If you can container garden indoors.. you can garden anywhere!!! try a tomato plant or 3 <smile> I prefer to use 5 gallon size containers but have found tomatoes do nicely in 1 gallon containers.
Peas do nicely in containers and will love the cool of the apartment in the winter. I have also done simpson lettuce and similar. Onions and garlic will also do nicely in containers.
My garden is tucked away among flower beds, under trees, along fences. Raising livestock.. the hooligans always break out.. so much for roses! I have had to move my garden to the front... which is a nice manicured area... living on a mountain with its ups and downs... makes it hard to row garden.
I have raised beds, container garden, and battle the gophers and moles/voles. I battle ground squirrels, birds, and when the kids were here.. the kids! ("what happened to all my cherry tomatoes?" .. 3 sheepish grins appeared)
canning? I love to can!
thanks for the welcome! |
