I like a 10/22, for a rifle, and a Ruger SA .22/.22Mag, for a pistol.
Well, what say the group, lets get going here. |

Scoped Marlin M68 Papoose rifle.
The Ruger 22/45 MK III Pistol is the most accurate pistol I have ever used.

I'm a fan of the lever action .22's. I have a Marlin Gold Trigger model. Autos may mal-function too often for me. _________________ "If this ain't a mess, it'l do 'till one shows up" |

I am a 10/22 nut. Almost as bad as my BRD!
That being said, I really think my marlin 25n would be a great SHTF game getter. It is stunningly accurate with the glass bedding I did on it. I actually bedded the barrel and left the action slightly free floated. It shoots like a dream. Sub .5" at 50 yds. with Wolf MT.
I have never missed a game animal with it, and I can't remember the last time I didn't take a head shot.
My 10/22's are perfectly reliable, but they are very well tuned and loved. I doubt any stock 10/22 can match them for accuracy or reliability. |

Hey..it's better than a sling shot! Especially if you use the pointed pellets. _________________ "If this ain't a mess, it'l do 'till one shows up" |

I prefer the 10/22 simply because it's magazine fed. With a tube-fed marlin, you have x shots and then no more unless you can get the tube open and spoonfeed in some rounds. If you were in a situation where you needed repeated shots, you would be very grateful of the ability to simply pop in a fresh mag. |

What about the reliability of the 10/22? Does it have a reputation for FTFs or FTEs? Accuracy? |

That's when you get one of these:

I've seen some speed loaders made out of vinyl tubes with x number of rounds in them. Just push the tube onto magazine tube and slide the shells in. But, like my dad told me, if you can't hit it with the first 18 rounds, why be in a hurry reloading? _________________ REI SFBC MBC WWII NAHC NAFC GOODSAM |

I see your point, and it's true that by virtue of being a semi-automatic the 10/22 is more prone to malfunction. However, there have been many very reliable semi-autos, and the 10/22 is built much more simply than, say, an AR. But then again, I've never used a 10/22, so take it for what it's worth. |

My original 10/22 is a bicentenial model with Lord only knows how many rounds thru it. With good mags and the right ammo i have never had reliability issues. Bad mags and or ammo that my gun doesnt like will ruin a day faster than anything. I have a MK II 6 7/8 competition target that i have had threaded for a Tactical Inc. Tac 65 suppressor, it's awesome. I bought a stainless barrel for my 10/22, had it shortened, shrouded (to bring back up to legal) and threaded for my can, everyone loves it. With subsonic ammo about all you get is bolt noise. I will forever be a die hard ruger fan because I have put so much .22 ammo downrange with them! |

I really like my Mark III 22/45 target pistol. It has the heavy barrel and a scope base that I mounted a red dot to. Accuracy wise it is a great pistol however make sure that there is someone experienced with you if you try and take them apart for cleaning. HOLY CRAP is that thing complicated.
And I rebuilt the internals of my Marlin 1895c lever gun.
For Plinking and just general light weight hunting I like the Savage mark 2 bolt action with the accutrigger and a decent rifle scope. one of these days I will have to pick up a semi .22 rifle but I prefer shot placement over quantity of lead down range. |

If I didn't already have a levergun in .22, I'd go for a good bolt gun.Less likely to break! _________________ "If this ain't a mess, it'l do 'till one shows up" |
